The work of AMCOW here focuses on climate change and variability, as a key development and water issue facing the African continent over the coming decades. Africa has been recognized as the continent most vulnerable to climate change. Adaptation to climate change should be at the core of any development activity and calls for building climate resilience. Given the importance of water resources and water infrastructure in economic and social development on the continent, there should be adequate investment in adapting to climate change to ensure their availability and sustainable use. The Sharm El-Sheikh highlighted 5 key messages for water and climate change. These messages inform the focus of the workplan:
